Dr. Wylie K. Bearup, P.E., has been appointed as the Beavers-Ames Professor of Practice

Dr. Edd Gibson, Director of the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, sent out this this announcement earlier this week:

We are excited to announce that  for Academic Year 2013 associated with our SSEBE’s heavy civil construction emphasis; this position is funded through the Beavers Heavy Construction Chair in honor of Bill Ames & Wink Ames.  Wylie will serve as Professor of Practice as he continues to work as the Phoenix City Engineer and will be available to assist our faculty on research proposals and to participate on graduate thesis committees. Dr. Bearup will also be available to the School as a guest lecturer and will be developing a graduate level course that will be offered during the Spring Semester of 2013.  Wylie has over 36 years’ with the US Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Phoenix, where he currently serves as City Engineer.  Dr. Bearup is a dedicated, well-rounded professional experienced in managing all facets of design and construction for a broad array of major projects, including international projects. He is recognized by industry as a project delivery methods expert and is sought after to speak on a variety of topics at the local, state, regional, and national level.  Wylie has research experience in heavy civil engineering and construction with both the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. He served as a Professor of Military Science at ASU several years ago during his military career and as an adjunct faculty member in DEWSC. He also is active with the Friends of Civil Engineering.  Dr. Bearup brings a rare blend of well-established academic credentials along with practical, field experience for multiple large government agencies.  During the course of this year, please reach out to Wylie if you are in need of a guest speaker or assistance on other activities focused on heavy civil design or construction.
